Melody Bridal on Fire (Los Angeles)
Melody Bridal, in Los Angeles, caught on fire in the morning of June 5, 2008.
This will effect a lot of weddings. This will effect a lot of brides who have their wedding gowns getting ready for their weddings. I know a lot of brides from Ventura County (far back from Fillmore) go to Los Angeles and Glendale to get the best picks of their wedding gowns. Melody Bridal is a big business, considering it’s a bridal shop. It’s been in business for 25 years.

Melody Bridal on Fire, Los Angeles
Melody Bridal is located in the garment district, down town Los Angeles, on Olympic (and S. Main Street). This large two story building contains about 10 businesses. Most of the business owners were hard working immigrants trying to build American dreams. Most of them, including Melody Bridal Collection, didn’t have insurance.
Melody Bridal Collection has a retail store on the first story and a warehouse on the second story. The owner of Melody Bridal was absolutely devastated. First floor was spared a little, but the warehouse was a total loss.
This was a big fire. At first, there was a big power transformer explosion and the manhole cover got blown off. It looked like the entire building was a total loss. Traffic was effected in downtown Los Angeles area for many hours.
The building was built before 1933 – This is significant, because pre-33 buildings are not being enforced with modern safety code. For example, you are not required to have sprinklers in old buildings. Firefighters will approach older buildings with extra caution. This can mean conservative approach to fight fire. Los Angeles has a lot of old buildings.
If you are a bride, something like this happening to you is highly unlikely. I would even say it’s a good luck because of its rarity. But, fire safety of your bridal shop may be a deciding factor when it comes to deciding your bridal shop. I display my Liability Insurance Policy on my website. I also bring my insurance policy to the meetings. I will probably never need my insurance. But I religiously pay my dues. So, why not bridal shop owners? I don’t blame Melody Bridal for anything. All I’m saying is that people with insurances look at life with different eyes. This can be ultimately used to judge people’s work ethic and belief system. People have different set of priorities…

Ivy House – Wedding Chapel Fraud
I just watched this clip from a TV news program.
Ivy House, an Inglewood wedding chapel, shut down September 11 and took all money from the customers.
Some customers paid $16,000.00 so Ivy House can provide everything (Music, Cake, Photography, Videography, food. flower, etc, etc…). Considering most people book weddings 1 year earlier, there may be a lot of victims.
This makes us look bad.
